Sit back and think about the books that really moved you as a child. I mean the first real book that made you think.

My girlfriend has asked me for some book suggestions lately and so I decided to provide her with a few of my childhood favorites. The main books that jumped off my tongue were; Island Of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell

and Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.

My childhood friend and myself would play under a bridge down the road from my house. During the rainy season you couldn't get to it but in the middle of Summer it was bone dry. We called it Terabithia, it seemed magical. Recently I read a book that targeted that age group called Matilda bone by Karen Cushman. That too would have been added to my list if I were a fifth grader in 2000.

If you haven't read these pick them up they target a younger crowd but just like the Potter books are far from juvenile.

If you can think of a some great ones drop me a comment as my memory always needs jarring.

Here is a great article on healthier cleaning Alternatives . I myself love a spray bottle with distilled vinegar but this delves a bit deeper.

This is scary but true

I will certainly miss Molly Ivins!! Nothing better than a spitfire with a witty pen. Check out her legacy here at Mother Jones !

Judy blume isn't quite what i had in mind although every preteen of the late 70's early 80's can definately relate to it.
